We received a number of responses to an article in our January newsletter about how YMCAs can make the “C” more visual in their facilities. One of those responses came from Leslie Critchfield from the Wadsworth YMCA in Ohio. The team at Wadsworth uses a rotating display in a prominent corridor of their Y to draw attention to their Christian emphasis.

Rotating displays this past December included:

• A scripture basket

• A prayer request box (prayer team then prays over the requests)

• A Christian book exchange (Bring a book/take a book)

• Outreach projects (donate school supplies for needy students)

• Thanksgiving Tree of Gratitude (Write your blessings on a provided paper leaf and then hang it on the Tree)

• Spiritual symbolism of the candy cane at Christmas

(Handouts provided which explain symbolism)

Leslie added that they try to provide really engaging displays and get tons of positive feedback from Y members.

What a great, simple way to lift up the “C”!
