YMCAs all across the country often look for meaning service projects to coincide with the start of the school year. School supply drives and backpack programs are not new or novel, but still one of the most important things we can do to provide the tools necessary for underprivileged students to start the school year off on a solid note.
The USMN wants to make your YMCA aware of an organization that can help you stretch your donation dollars and impact more students and their families.
World Vision is a well known Christian charity that is best know for their work in connecting under-privileged children overseas with sponsors families in the US and other parts of the world. What is less known about this highly respected organization is their efforts here in the states to equip students, teachers and classrooms with the supplies they need.
World Vision offers several programs to get these badly needed supplies into the hands of those that need them. You may raise funds that will be matched and multiplied through corporate grants to stretch your investment further, then hold a packing event to fill your backpacks. If you don’t have the time or desire to stuff your own backpacks, you can also purchase ready made backpacks already filled with supplies that you can distribute to a needy school.
