The Clark County YMCA is a bit louder than normal these days. That’s because for the past two years they taken on the task of feeding a free lunch to kids from the surrounding neighborhoods. Built right next to a large apartment complex with a number of low income families, the need is obvious. There are kids everywhere, many of them who depend on the free and reduced lunch program during the school year. But what happens during the summer months?
That’s where Chaplain Roger Button and his Transformation Team come in! Last summer they began a partnership with a couple of other local non-profits to take care of these hungry kids. The Clark County YMCA provides the facilities, the volunteers and the fun for up to 200 kids per day, while their partnering organizations, like SHARE, bring in the food. Roger and his team serve the food, play games with the kids, and turn the gym of the YMCA into a very active multipurpose experiment!
This year’s program runs from June 27 thru Aug 12, with lunches provided Monday through Friday each week. By meeting this real need in their community the staff at the Clark County YMCA is living out their pledge to be the hands and feet of Christ in their community!
